I had the rattle gun over tightening prob. on the Defender once. So tight I bent the original wheel nut spanner trying to undo them. The idiot who did them up like it got moved on by the tyre place manager and he replaced the ruined wheel nuts plus all wheels were re-torqued by hand.
I now use Greens in Wanneroo (deliberate plug...is that allowed?) as they take care to actually do what the customers asks.

Got my replacement wheel nuts, $89 for 20 delivered from the US.
Very happy those stupid nut covers are gone.

So I've ordered a set of the nuts from post #8...

I discovered no less than three nuts (two on the same wheel!) were not even finger tight the other day - presumably a result of a recent brake rotor change, and the workshop's inability to tighten further. I could barely get a centimeter or so onto the nuts with my (LR) wheel spanner tool thing, so they still aren't THAT tight now. Good thing they aren't a critical part - they only hold the ****ing wheels on!

I'm astonished I need to do this - I'll defend this car against claims of unreliability/high service costs all day long, but the need to replace the wheel nuts??!! REALLY??

You only need to replace them if a heavy handed workshop has damaged them...

No question, though those heavy handed workshops don't seem to have an effect on the wheel nuts of other makes?

Agree... although the LR caps don’t go rusty like other brands due to their Covers.
It’s just that careless mechanics are often ham fisted, use the incorrect sockets and just butcher the covers, causing the issue.

I’ve never let a “shop” take my wheels off, even the tyre store I go to lets me do the work (and I get a better price) so I’ve never had a problem with the standard wheel nuts on any of my LRs.
