I'm starting to wonder if other people take any spare tools or parts at all Pedro.

Must take into account that I went over the weigh bridge completely full with 160l of Diesel.

2 spare tyres at 23kg each.

Being able to drive upto 1400km between fills has been great. We don't worry about diesel much. Our last fill prior to Broome last night was Tom Price, 1210kms including many gorge stops. We had 60kms left in the tank....

Things do get heavy once you add the bull bar and winch though...

40kg of spare parts and tools... I'd remove half of that if we weren't going so remote.

    Lucky i don't have a dual rwc...

Mate I wrote a huge paragraph about lightening stuff,, but then thought,,

Its a known thing now, to you, your D4.
and from reading LOTS of posts on here about outback travel from the same guys, years after year,
change is not a common theme,,

I'm not sure I'd fuss with it,,

If you are unhappy with it.
Thats the only reason for change.

    otherwise,,

I reckon we can do better Pedro. Like Bob said, we just need to be brutal when choosing what stays and goes from now on.

It's our first long touring trip so can only really get better than this.

All I'm thinking Russ is your Peers are the best way to lose weight,,
you need to visit a venue with lots of other D4 owners and open up to them,,

as they should do for you ,,,

see what and how other owners carry stuff,,

all this can be done on here...
but theres nothing like talking to another owner

    why is yours over fat??

exhaust manifold nuts have been coming loose on LR's for a long time
Pedro, I suspect the answer to your pondering is simple..... What Russrobe is doing differently is admitting to and trying to tackle the problem.

The majority of kitted D4's are in exactly the same boat...... Don't ask how I know .

Tbh I'm only worried about it because of the amount of people complaining about towing and mentioning only having 300kg on the ball when our has about 500kg in the back haha.

Awning is going. There's 20kg. Hasn't been used once.

I'll be working with this issue soon Russ, as I pack for my upcoming trip. I've always used the philosophy of trying to travel light to reduce wear and potential for issues, we'll see how is goes in practice this time...

The second fuel tank certainly adds weight over the OEM expectations and the spare wheel carrier to carry the relocated spare wheel adds weight again. The extra fuel would be handy but has a penalty. I have the std tank but will carry 2 jerry cans of extra fuel.

I have removed the 3rd row seats and will remove one rear seat, so about 50kg+ removed there...

I can't see myself carrying a lot of spares. I was at the dealer today (Southerns) and asked about spares and the taking of a "remote area travel kit". They were cool on the idea and said they wouldn't bother? I think I'll just be carrying the basic tools, fuses, tape, cable ties & a FBH!

I'm travelling by myself this time. When we travel as a family we use a camper trailer. It is relatively light and small so we can't fit much in it, which has the advantage of removing the temptation to fill it with non-essential weight.....

    C
