    Discovery 3 replacement key.

Currently sitting at home sipping on a 25 year old Laphroaig single malt while I mull over the cost of an extra key!
I needed the scotch to get my heart rate down.
$420 for a ####### key!!!!!! And that is from an independent Land Rover specialist. Have not yey tried the Land Rover dealer.
Are there any DIY ways of getting another key????

Mine was $50 from Ebay... Buy a Bt IID tool.

eBay Complete Remote Key for Land Rover Discovery 3 or Sport flip key blank | eBay

You'll need to make sure you have the correct mhz frequency as the d3 had 2 different keys i believe.

Iid tools are around $650 but you've already paid for itself in this one exercise and it's mega useful.

You obviously haven't been around modern cars much! The key for my Skoda Yeti was much more than that and the car is only $34000.

My son needs a spare for his new D3 V8 so I might get one from of those cheap ones and add the D3 to my Gap IID so that I can program it for him.

How does one waterproof the replacement key though?

I've just been given 2 Disco 3 keys from a written off truck.
Notwithstanding getting new keys physically cut, can a key from another vehicle be "recoded" to a different vehicle????

Yeah, I noticed that in your signature. My comment was very much tongue in cheek based on that assumption!! However, the fact is that modern keys are expensive, especially OEM.

$420 sounds about right. They are a lot more than just a key. That's why I never let kids play with my keys
