$380 inc GST. Fair bit cheaper than the Varta, and has 3yr warranty

    SSB HVT 70LD

    Just resurrecting this thread (again)...

My optima aux battery has just failed, and needs replacing.
My main cranking battery is also slowly dying (Varta that was put in there to replace an Amaron that failed early). The Varta has lasted about 6years (really good!), but I'm not sure it's the best option now...

Based on this thread, I'm going to use:
    - Cranking - SSB SS88Ti - I think around $380 inc GST. Good capacity, 3yr warranty for my vehicle (not stop/start)
    - Aux - SSB HVT70LD - Around $275 inc GST. Larger than my yellow top, and have been advised (by Tim) not to go for the Optima's anymore. I need to make a minor mod to the battery tray and may need a longer +ve lead from the isolator to the terminal. But I get a larger capacity aux battery to run my fridge when needed...

Any comments, thoughts, or other advice on these battery choices?

    Thanks.

    Rob
    hi Rob
i chose the HVT0LD to replace an optima. I happened to run a battery tester on the first HVT unit and it had half the CCA that it was supposed to. SSB were very good and delivered a replacement immediately. All good 12 months later.
it is a tight fit but with the supplied cap screws replacing the terminal posts, it fits. I hammered out the piranha battery tray on two sides to squeeze the battery in.
I recommend that you just check the height prior to slamming the bonnet.
    best Jeffoir.

Battery choice: VARTA H3 or G14 or SSB

I am in the same boat looking to replace my Discovery 4 battery.
Reading through this thread it seems the Varta gets a good rap. Question is why the AGM G14 (best online price I find is $639.00) with 36 month warranty rather than the H3 for $350.00 with 40 month replacement warranty at Autobahn.
    H3: CCA 830A, 100Ah, $350
    G14: CCA 850A, 95Ah, $639
SSB SS88Ti: CCA 1,100A, 95Ah, $450 but ebay warranties can be difficult
I do a lot of short (<5km) trips. Would I go far wrong with the H3 or should i look at the SSB rather?

I reckon I'll be up for a replacement soon too.

The specs on the SSB sound compelling - but the extra warranty on the Varta feels safer.

Having said that, I currently have this one which was fitted by RACV when it died in my driveway - and it's lasted 7 years so far!

    60044 - YHI Power

This place has them for $350
    60044 – CD Batteries
