Rack and pinion steering on a D4 means no steering wander like on a 110/130. A long days drive in a D4 would be a lot easier in a D4.

    A defender is cool
    A disco is ........

Do you like your coffee hot and strong or milky.
    Do you wear chinos?

I know what you mean Fitzy, they are fun to drive short distances and offroad, and turn a few heads when driving pass...

I would also miss the defender wave

and we already have 3 discos in our street (Cafe suburb)...

I've got two cars that are quieter, safer, more fuel efficient and more mod cons than my Defender, but it's my favourite.
There's people out there that have had the same car for 30 years and have no interest in updating.

Gus,I'm a defender tragic,I have two but even I would go the D4 over them. With our TDCi I insulated the floor and tinted the windows which helped with the heat, but removing the cat and running a straight through exhaust made all the difference with heat.I have Mulgo runners which should be fitted as standard, auxiliary 48ltre tank, water proof seat covers etc and it is a nice vehicle to drive long distances, sixth gear helps and low first is brilliant, but the D4 is just better, more modern, more user friendly, just all over better. Our TDCi will eventually make way for a low millage D4,a new D5 or Disco sport. That all round capability with comfort is why I went from an Isuzu 110 to a 10 year old L322 tdv8. A drive from Brisbane to Sydney in a day is now a doddle in comparison to the 110. Beach driving in the 110 was easy, but even easier in the L322. A D4 would be similar. But I still have 2 x 110s in the backyard for some reason.

I have to say I endorse all that Pat303 says about Defenders although both the Cook and I feel the seats are not as good as previous ones we've had. Our Puma (up for sale for health reasons only ) has always been a fairly quiet vehicle especially when on the open road but obviously not like the Disco which is heavily insulated from everything.
Plus we've never suffered from steering wander on any of the ones we've had.
