Picked up a Safari snorkel from SparesBox a fortnight ago for $350 delivered. I'll let you know how the fitting goes.
Today I decided to fit a snorkel to my D4. I selected a Airflow one for two reasons. Had one on my previous vehicle and it was way cheaper than the Safari one. Currently on Fleabay you can get one for $235 and I got some $11.00 promotional discount. So $224 is about half the price of a Safari. So a lot cheaper. But with cheapness there is always a cost. Its not the quality. Airflow is made in Dromana Victoria, and uses quality UV stablised plastics. Its the bloody fitting. There must be subtle differences between the 3 and 4 and perhaps even the latest D4 which mine is. Because I had to cut some metal behind the guard grill bit where the old intake was and also on the inner guard into the airbox. Not a lot but it needed to be done. I know the Safari shows cutting the inner guard. Then came trying to do up the 5 bolts that holes have been drilled into the guard. There was no way I could put the one above the air hole. In fact I would challenge anybody getting up there. And the ones that are back near the door opening took me over 1 hour of my patient time to finally get the nut on and then to do them up. It looks very similar to the Safari. the only difference seems to be the bottom of the snorkel that sits on the guard sits a little further back than the Safari one. Not sure what others think of Airflow snorkels and would be interested to hear if there is an issue with them.

How did the fitting go JD, just been looking at the Airflow and its tempting at half the current Safari price although $350 is better.

SubscriberIt was quite simple to fit, but was time consuming. The instructions and templates provided were spot on.

Not sure if any Ram Head that is "pretty". It looks a bit bigger than others I agree. When I went to the factory to get one made for my previous 4WD (I was the first in the make to have one fitted), the boss of Airflow made a lot of noise about cyclonic air mass or something sounding like that. As such he said they are not just up high for water crossings and dust avoidance, but his also improved air intake velocities, and as a result fuel economy. Could have been all Bulltish, but sounded good.

Started on the fitting, instructions arent that clear but i assume i remove the intake ducting that is behind the guard intake grill ? Doesnt see to want to come regardless how hard i yank on it.
Got it, had to release the plastic duct from the inner guard behind filter housing. Also removed a moulded sponge rubber piece from the behind the intake grille that was soaked with water, probably a rust trap if left in there.

I agree. Sometimes you think if I have to yank that hard it must be bolted or something and you start to worry. I find removing and fitting the flares the most stressful. To get the fdlair off you infact need to remove the headlights and undo a philllips head screw! Then putting the flare back on I worry I am hitting it too hard to clip it back in place. With that side air vent I did not care (even though mine is a graphite one) as i knew it would not be going back on. As I said you might decide to not drill the upper hole as I could not get my hand up there at all.
Cheers David

I just spoke to a guy at airflow as when i fitted the template the 2 middle horizontal studs are floating with no metal behind, no grinding required thus far and otherwise it seems to sit nice and snug against the guard.

This is where I'm at, guessing a D4 is different in this area. Sat the snorkel up against the template and it doesnt line up, going to have to make my own template.
Also not clear on the pillar bracket fitting, do i remove the plastic trim ?
