    Air suspension leak

I've been getting the red suspension fault for a while and after searching on here I've done the test where you pull the 20A #26 fuse, put it into offroad hight then see which corner(s) drop. Well I didn't have to wait long, within 20 mins the front passenger had dropped 70mm and the front driver 40mm (maybe just compensating?). I also could hear a pretty obvious hissing noise coming from the passenger side spring area but not the drivers. I tried the soapy water but nothing conclusive. Th back did not drop on either side. Can I confidently say this is an air spring or should I consider the lines or the valve block?

    Cheers,

    Peter.

Actually you can probably disregard this. I've just re-run the test and this time I felt around the bottom of the air bag and on the inner side I could feel the air coming out so I assume I'm up for a replacement air spring. Is it worth getting the mechanic to do both fronts at the same time?

I think it would handle pretty weird with only one spring replaced, and might even be dangerous.

I'd do both if they are old.

And if one has failed, rather than been punctured, the other is probably not far behind.

A new air-spring (not assembly) only on 1 side will not produce any adverse characteristics. However if worn out then as already stated, the other wont be far behind. Buying just the air-springs was more expensive than complete assemblies when I compared prices a couple of years ago.

Sounds like replacing both is the go. Thanks for the replies.

Replace both as a complete assembly (airbag and shock complete) as a simple swap.

But changing only one assembly would due the having one new and one old shock, correct?

Just checking my understanding is correct

Spot on. The shock matters more than than the bag.

How old, how many kms and have they had a hard life? Air spring problems are pretty rare.
