I seem to remember reading that a small hole has to be left in the blank so air pressure can equalise or it will throw error codes, but that could be wrong.

Resurrecting this helpful thread.
As part of a service and oil change yesterday I removed the throttle body to clean. Man it was really gunky in there, took me an hour or so to remove all the gunk and clean it.
I also removed the butterfly valve actuator so I didn't damage when the throttle body was soaking to loosen the gunk. I should have taken a photo but on reassembly I could not remember if the valve flap should be open or closed. Open seemed right and aligned with the motor and have clearance to move to closed setting.
Driving to written this morning the car runs well, but on pushing the go peddle i can hear a rushing air noise from the engine bay.
Can't check until tonight so I thought I would ask the brains trust..
Did I stuff up? Clearly something nqr..
I had a similar issue a few months back after cleaning the intake, I hadn't seated the plenum properly (part that has the big steel spring clip).
Worth noting, I also blanked my EGR's despite it binging a late 2007 model and not on the recommended list. For $18 off ebay I took the risk and no error code so far after a month or two.

EGR delete will help prevent it reoccurring after being cleaned up.
The butterfly is naturally in the open position. It closes to suck from the egr circuit when directed.
The butterfly disc is removed after blanking / deleting the egrs
