    Notchiness in steering

Over the last few months i have noticed a notchiness in the steering that seems to come and go. It is most noticeable turning right on a longer bend when the steering is being held at a constant point - and then when it is moved to return to centre there is some resistance/reluctance to return. I don't recall noticing this when turning left and then returning to centre.

I replaced the lower steering shaft and UJ a few months back which didn't seem to make a difference. We then had the lower control arms replaced and wheel alignment done which seemed to reduce it but i wasn't completely convinced that it had gone away. It now seems to have come back and a bit more obvious. It doesn't happen all the time and does seem more pronounced when held right around a longer bend.

Any ideas where to start looking - there doesn't seem to be much other info out there with common symptoms.

    For reference it is a MY11 3.0 D4.

Were the balljoints included with the arms Glenn ? , otherwise sounds like a rack problem.

Replaced the rackends in my D3 with TRW ones. Huge improvement . Was fair bit of play in rack ends.

Ended up having to replace the steering rack. Water had gotten in and it was all a big mess. All better now.
