    Power Steering hose weeping

    Hi,
One of my power steering hoses is weeping so I figure it is time to change them both as the D3 is 11 years old. Before I jump in and pull everything apart, any hints or tips from people who have tried this themselves?

Where is it weeping? The most common fault is a failed O Ring where the pipes bolt to the steering rack. They let go very suddenly after the initial slight leak and pump out all the oil very quickly. Check the O Ring connections before you replace the hoses.

When is a leaking Steering hose not a leaking steering hose?

When it is a collection of oil blown by the fan from an oil weep from the lower cooling hose for the engine oil.

    Good news
    1. no need to replace/repair power steering hoses
    2. found water in the rubber gaiter of the steering rods

    Bad news
    1. this oil cooler hose was replace less than 2 years ago with a genuine landcover part - how often should I expect to need to replace them
    2. there was water in the loose steering rod gaiter (from a water crossing 2 months ago) - I can dry it out but what grease should I use on the steering rod?

    Both Ends

Checking around my 2011 D4 HSE last weekend and found that the high pressure power steering hose has a weep at the rubber pipe to metal pipe swagged fitting near the pump end. Took it to my local LR service agent on the Monday, Whyatt's in Geraldton. They checked it out and were able to show me what they had found. The steering rack end was also weeping where the rubber pipe meets the metal fitting. Replacement pipe, O rings, etc ordered and I will get the good folks at Whyatt's to fit. No dirty hands nor skinned knuckles for me on this occasion! Vehicle has done 210,720km.

    Steering fluid leak MY12 SDV6SE

I think I must have the same problem. Found a large pool of steering fluid on the ground for no apparent reason. Is this a job I can get fixed on a Sunday in Brisbane? Need to get back to Bundaberg on Monday.
