Spare Wheel in Boot you've got great visibility as well with that setup. What blind spot?

Mate took this photo on the weekend down south in WA. Fire brigade in attendance still. The aluminium bonnet has disappeared. Can anyone tell if it's a diesel or petrol? Can see the timing gear and looks a lot like a diesel to me.

    Spare Wheel in Boot

The owner is friends with the guy I sit next to. They had no idea, blaming the intercooler failing overheating it (sorry no, that doesn't happen). I suspect it's a high pressure FP failure given its age but I'll see if I can confirm. There's a YouTube vid too

They obviously didn't have a fire extinguisher handy as I imagine that a fast response with an extinguisher would have saved the car.
Maybe even if they had popped the bonnet and simply threw heaps of sand on the engine it may of helped as well, Standing back filming it with a phone didn't help too much
