I didn't do the full length of the Tele track, but with all the back tracking I recon I would have used about the same amount of fuel.

By the way, diesel is cheap enough up to Coen, then OK at Weipa, then expensive ($2.00) up to Bamaga where its cheaper, $1.30ish.

My D3 went fantastic, after I replaced the old radiator at Bundaburg, and the aux battery at Mareeba.

Towed the van with ease, all the way to Bramwell Station, then up to the Tip in comfort. Had a play on Sam and Cannibal creeks and watched the shenanigans at Gunshot.

Dropped the D647 tyres to 30psi all round and kept speed down to 80kph. No problems at all.

Spoke to one bloke who had blown a tyre and he couldn't understand why, as he had his tyres at 35psi, but he was driving at 110kph on the bitumen bits.

Best campsite we had was the aboriginal reserve on the way to Chilli Beach. Much better run than the National Parks, pay when you get there NOT on-line, hot water, flush toilet, and the ranger delivered firewood to us each day. Go through the top area to the sites down on the creek.

    Have fun, you'll love it.

    Regards

Sounds great, we booked Chilli but might drop in there anyway

Great set up, Is that rock slider from APT as well? We had D4 with camper trailer to Fraser last Christmas, avg 15L per 100k. Just go pass weightbridge last week, it was 3.5 tone with a family of 6. It will be problems on sand when you stop at Rainbow beach or inskip Ferry. We go bogged twice, hope you have a convoy in case of recovery. Drop the Tyre pressures and Sand archory might help. Good luck, it is great fun for kids and family.

Yep, APT sliders. Very happy with them.

The sand will be a PITA with the 19's but I've found dropping the trailer pressures low and the vehicle has been ok in the past. I towed my old camper behind my G60 around Aus years ago, had to revert to 5 lb for a short stretch of beach once !
I do love the Inskip point Facebook page, that spot still sorts out everyone !

    Sand driving

I took my D4 with camper to Fraser a few years ago when we lived in Qld. It was around October, and *everyone* was saying how soft/boggy the sand was...
I'd done a (fair) bit of sand driving previously in my old D1, but had not had the D4 offroad since purchasing - so I was getting a little nervous, based on everyone's comments (and the fact that we were towing)!
So, we deflated the tyres (I recall about 18psi on my 19" Coopers), and didn't have a problem at all! We barged over from Hervey Bay, drove through some pretty soft sand to Central Station, then across the island and up as far as Waddy Point. We never looked like getting stuck... We actually had to stop heading up an incline in very soft, sandy ruts, because someone ahead had neglected to drop their tyre pressures before getting off the barge... becoming royally bogged. I'm sure it was a Japanese branded, common 4wd, but that had nothing to do with it!!! We had no problems setting off again. The D4 is REALLY good in sand, as long as you have the right tyre pressures (low) and watch where you put your wheels!
I've had my 19" tyres as low as 15psi (although not for any long distances or while towing the camper)...

    You'll have no problems.

Enjoy the trip - we also took our D4 and camper to the Tip 2 1/2yrs ago - it was awesome...

    Thanks.

Owen that floating bit is Scrubby Creek....and apparently there is an easier way to cross it. I ended up driving 50m up the thing!

    Cheers
