MAP and MAF sensor cleaning - where are they and with what

    Hi,
I've been reading lots of threads about people who have cleaned their MAP sensor and their MAF sensor. None of them show where the MAF sensor is on a 2.7 TDV6, or if they are cleaned with the same product. So far I have discovered that the MAP sensor is under the plastic engine cover near the oil filter and that the MAF sensor should be cleaned with CFC Mass Air Flow cleaner (or similar product).

Can anyone enlighten me as to
    1. where the MAF sensor is and how to get it out and clean it
    2. do I clean the MAP sensor with the Mass Air Flow cleaner or a different product.

I think the MAF is in the outlet closest to the air filter. On earlier models it was separate but on mine from MY08 it is part of the air box lid outlet. On mine it is clean as a whistle and upstream of where EGR oil gets in.

PD has this right. Theoretically, the Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor should never get dirty - if the air filter is clear and no leaks. Once you undo the air filter box lid and undo the jubilee clamp to get at it, a quick spray of MAF cleaner (like CRC - from Supercheap, etc.) onto the wire, is all it takes. Do not touch the MAF wire or you will probably bugger it!

Same goes for the Manifold Absolute Pressure (MAP) sensor. Use MAF cleaner sprayed into the hole until the fluid coming out runs clear. Do not poke anything into that sensor or you will bugger it up too! Use a T25 Torx bit to remove the MAP sensor.

    Cheers,
    Rob

Brilliant response, thank you for the detail.

I now know how to clean the MAF & MAP.
