We've got RAC Fully Comp. which supposedly gives cover where ever you're legally entitled to be. Plus top recovery cover. As the car is still under warranty I hope that's sufficient .....

Hi all,
Getting a headache from googling. Happy to go with your recommendations.
Looking for a trip insurance, not annual cover. Something which covers vehicle + kamper recovery in a remote area travel situation (Aus, not overseas), with family medical.
cheers

Hi Guys
Just a bit of info for you regarding recovery from break down.
I have top shelf Ultimate plus with RAC....They have informed me today that my cover is valid on any gazetted road that's on Google maps in Australia.....But if I were to breakdown in the "BUSH" their words, it would be up to their discretion whether or not they would come and recover you.
I read that as..... if in the middle of the Simpson or CSR..............HAHA........"you are where mate".......on the corner of what street is that then ??????....Does this sound familiar.

When we did The Simpson the tracks came up on our maps. For example, I just typed French Line into Google Maps and up it came. There are recovery services from both Mt Dare and Birdsville. They are expensive, but if you are covered it should be OK.
We have RACQ top cover.
Can't comment on the medical side though.
With most of these you have to be in a location that a 2wd tilt tray can safely recover you. The general wording may imply otherwise but the fine print has so many outs that it cannot be relied upon.
Club 4x4 may offer "offroad recovery insurance" but I believe you will pay for it.

You need to ask specifics if you are unsure. I had "heard it all" in the forums as general comments from the "well meaning" as well. So I asked: RACQ ultimate cover will recover you in the Simpson Desert travelling the French line for free - They will send a contractor for the closest end. I know this because I asked the actual question. I suggest that before any trip you ask the specific questions and record the event. All of their conversations are recorded as well - for their benefit - not for "training purposes" as they say. Have fun - Matti
I dont think RAC WA would cover that one - they list that the top cover is only good for 300km "round trip" for the tow truck and up to $7000 per year

300 kms could be enough for the Simpson - the distances are not huge. Doesn't it say something about recovery to the nearest depot?
I also asked RACQ about recovery before we did the Simpson and was told we were OK. Saw the Birdsville recovery truck bring a vehicle in while we were there.
