    DRL's on a D3 SE

I've had fun with my new iiD tool over the last 24 hours trying to set up DRL's on my D3.
Seems it can't be done (at least not with the iiD Tool!) on my vehicle with the options fitted.
Tried Canadian and Scandinavian settings (the only 2 shown), and both settings turned on the headlights and foglights at full intensity.
Made no difference if the light switch was off or auto, or lights on.
Had a catch up with 2 traffic cops over lunch who politely told me that in SA, fog lights are not allowed, except in fog, and there is a fair chance of being pinged.
So have put everything back to normal and will just turn on the lights when I drive!!!!

I saw a useful setup recently, quite possibly on Disco3 UK website, someone had found a replacement light fitting for the round fog lamps in the bumper/bull bar that had a ring of bright white LEDS around the perimeter as a separate circuit.
It was a universal light fitting that required a litle bit of 'fettling' as the pommies say.

I dont recall how they had wired them but it was a good way to install lights that looked integrated.

What lights are you trying to use as DRLs? Yes it is illegal to use Fog Lamps except in low visibility conditions in all jurisdictions.

DRLs have to be less that 25w, and must not be able to operate as DRLs when the headlights are on. Though many modern cars mix the functions of OEM lights. So as your fog lamps are 55w they cannot be configured as DRLs.

Presumably the law will need to be updated to remove the wattage reference - a 24w LED is pretty damn bright for a DRL isn't it?

Regs determined by people who have no idea - that is why DRLs are now hi intrensity LEDs not incandescent - yes should be based on light output. Same as you cannot remove a cat in the exhaust even if the car still passes emission requirements.

Not sure what's up with your car but when I've enabled the DRL on my D3 with my IID tool it doesn't affect the fog lights

Have you got full CCF access with the iiD? You need to request it from Gap. You may not have access to the necessary DRL setting.

Can I ask when DRLs are enabled on a D3 what actually lights up? The reason I ask is I want to put DRLs on my RRS (D3 equivalent) and if I can find someone to just switch them on that would be great.

    Cheers

I wasn't sure what would come on! Was hoping for reduced headlights.

I didn't know there was "more" access. I'll contact them.
