    Bloody punctures

I need some where to gripe so please excuse

i have had my tyres, hankooks, for awhile now but they have not done any hard work or a lot of kms. Mainly towing over bitumen.

i bought 6 so when I go off-road or even more remote with the van I would be prepared. I was even rotating the six tyres to keep them even.

    Puncture 1.
I got one of the biggish card board box staples in the tyre, hardly noticeable but when I noticed a slight drop in tyre pressure I went looking

This puncture unfortunately was just in the side wall, a pin *****, so no one would repair it. I just plugged it up and reckon as a second spare it will do for now

So down to the normal 5.

    Puncture 2.
I have a tpms but it had ran out of juice so hadn't noticed however my grandson was playing with the window while we were driving and I heard this clickty click sound so plugged in the tpms in an sure enough one tyre was down in pressure by 4-5 psi which is a bad sign

when we stopped I had a look and sure enough there was something in the tyre. Bloody big screw or bolt not sure BUT it was smack in the middle of the tyre, furthest away from the side walls so thought bad but at least I could get it repaired.

WRONG, apparently the the tyre had seperated, not exactly sure what that means but have an idea given the size of head of the bolt/screw.

So now down to 4 Tyres and as I am towing a van I reckon I had to buy a new one.

i wouldn't have mind to much if I had had chance to use these tyres for what I got them for.

so instead of heading off in my van today I am spending another night at my sons place, which is good, while I wait for a tyre to arrive.

    end of gripe

    Typical hankooks!
Had 4 on my car, 3 of the 4 delaminated, hankooks did not want a bar of them!

    One puncture in 15 yrs,running,you guessed it,BFG.

And that puncture was a large Teck screw and the tyres were worn out and due to be replaced.

Will never do Hankooks again....3 sidewalls in 6 months. might be good the bitumen but as soon as you get offroad they fail. Tried to talk to the AUS HQ and never had a reply. Put a set of GG AT's on, travelled the same roads and never had an issues.

Hi Richard...have 19's also. Had GG's on 2 Disco's with 19's now. Did have the Coopers Zeon's before the Hankooks, OK but ended up wearing irregularly. Have just bough another D4 (2014 model) which came with brand new Goodyear Duratracks fitted. I'll be intersted to see how they go. Much noisier but have read good things. Hankooks were definately the worst type experiane I've had. I ended up driving with 2 GG's on the rear for a while after the 3rd sidewall till I could justify all 4 GG's!!

we have not tested the Hankooks much
The punctures were from home or some where around Brisbane suburbs

The sidewalks do scare me a bitbthe way they bulge.

i probably will not rotate the new one into the tyre set and keep it as the second spare when need to replace.

The Maxxis are an option may be.

What the hell? I thought the Hankooks were OK? Certainly haven't seen much negative about them on this site - I've booked in to get them fitted on Saturday...

Don't worry veebs. There are positive and negative stories about everything......

I have Hankooks and am very happy with them. Done beach work, towing and several thousand kms of desert running with no issues. Appear to be wearing to get 60,000km + life too.

Cheers Chris - it was actually one of your reviews in a different thread that convinced me to go with them in the first place.
