When looking for a 4WD my wife flatly refused to drive the 200 Series as she felt it was just far too big for general use and I tend to agree. After towing a 3 ton van around Australia in my MY12 D4 diesel and knowing plenty of 200 Series owners I have a deep respect for the 200's but much prefer the D4 as it's more compact and goes all of the same places.

Discovery purchase price is less, Discovery has more equipment per dollar, Discovery has air suspension (important if you need it to fit in some places with less headroom), Discovery has full independent suspension (gives a better ride on choppy roads), Discovery has more power and the Discovery is much better looking.

They are are a few of the top of my head. I suspect the Discovery is more comfortable but I haven't done any long days in a 200. I keep looking at the 200 series D4D as a replacement but I have a lot of trouble getting past the interior and exterior styling.
The big advantage the Toyota has is the fuel capacity. Thankfully a long range tank means I can get 900km around town now.

I own both - 1995 Disco petrol and 2006 Petro Landcruiser, and as much as it pains me to say it, the Toyota is simple better all around. Not much beats the Disco's off road, but the Toy is great off-road (I've had both in more than sever conditions) and just doesn't break or need much maintenance over the normal scheduled maintenance. This might seem like an apples-to-oranges comparison, but my experience is based on cost of ownership including several models of Land Rovers and similar years as well. I love my Disco and the other Rover products I've owned, but I would buy another Toy in a heartbeat and buy it over any Land Rover.

There's 11 years difference between those vehicles. What about a 2006 disco to compare it with.

There is no comparison between a 1995 Disco and a D4.
