    D4 Replacement Windscreen

I have to replace the OEM screen and as the car is over three years old RACV will not pay for an original screen. Couple of questions for the Aulro brains trust(!):
    1. Is it possible to retrofit a heated screen to a non-heated screen D4? That is, is it just a case of finding the wires and re-configuring the CCF?
    2. Is the Pilkington opticool glass the same as the OEM glass, just without the Landrover logo?

Have just this afternoon had a conversation with RACQ insurance about replacing the cracked windscreen on my 2013 D4.
i requested OEM, having heard of aftermarket screens adversely affecting the operation of the automatic headlight and wiper sensors.
The installer phoned an hour ago and advised that he’ll be ordering the screen from Land Rover (and trim clips) - seems to believe that there’s no suitable aftermarket screen.

Had a similar discussion with RAA last year. who were pushing their screens Asked one question. Would LRA warrant the car in a crash if you fitted a non OE windscreen and if that happened I am assuming you will cover all and any subsequent damages/repairs. Vis what if the auto wipers/headlights/other safety items no longer work with your screen. We got an OE screen and our card has probably been marked as a naughty customer

I have mine booked in for this coming Friday after a repair of a stone chip wasn't satisfactory. It's directly in my line of sight and noticeable. OEM screen at my request plus new clips as advised on this forum. My insurance company NRMA said that they would use OEM unless they aren't available. The PDS says that they may use aftermarket screens but that's if they can't source an OEM one. Be aware though that unless you ask for an OEM one you may end up with aftermarket by default. Car is just on 4 years old so technically out of standard warranty period although I have the 5 year extended warranty.

Opticool is a trade name for a the tinted interlayer that Pilks may use for their various OEM glasses.
The glass itself should have no impact on the functionality of the varous light and rain sensors.
As for the heating element, can’t help you re the wiring and/or faults. The profile of the glass is the same, so a non-heated glass would fit the aperture of a heated one (and save you some loot).

I doubt that the original windscreen is heated, the de-mister will do what's needed. A heated screen would have wires in it ( like the rear glass)

In many overseas countries the D3/D4 has a heated screen as original fit. I remember some discussion a while back and some also crept in on some Aussie spec cars.

Yes - they do! As a part of the "cool climate" pack - which has the heated elements at the bottom of the screen - near the windscreen wipers. Also has heated steering wheel and seats too, IIRC. A mate has this in his D4 HSE.

Don't forget heated external rear vision mirrors. My 1995MY Disco 1 had heated rear vision mirrors as standard but my 07MY RRS doesn't.
