    Stereo upgrades for d3 and rrs

    Hi all,
    We are looking at doing a stereo upgrade on both of these cars, the D3 has the cd400 and the sport has the cd560 head unit, from what I can gather these two units should be fairly easy too upgrade,
    Is this the case? And if anyone has done it, what kit is needed?
    We will end up fitting double din android head units I think, and are hoping to keep all the current fitted speakers working, is this possible?
    I have searched the internet and the advice seems somewhat confusing as to what to do, and what features are lost,
    So any help will be appreciated.....

    Cheers James

    The base L320 RRS (series 1) radio is the 6CD - 565. The higher spec models like the TDV8 and v8 Supercharged I think have the highest spec ICE system.

    It is easy to put in a double din system and bypass the rest of the cars systems but you need to be able to connect the standard steering wheel controls (I believe an interface unit is available) - however the radio runs the clock in the cars system so you loose this and with a different radio you may not be able to go into the dash command menu to change preferences as this is done through the radio steering wheel controls - so if you are happy with your selected command settings then all is OK.

    The other way to get around these issues is to mount the original radio somewhere else in the car extending the wiring and putting in an autonomous radio in the dash - or just have plugs where you can plug in the original radio if you need to make changes to the command menu.

    Ok, the sport definitely has the cd560 in it, it has died so we are going to either pay about $500 for a second hand stock radio, or go android,I think the android easily wins out, but I could be convinced otherwise...
    Im guessing the android units come with a clock, so I'm not really sure if in the end we would lose anything at all?

    Ok what RRS are we talking about? Helps to have that information because the radio in my base 2007 RRS (L320 - Series 1) has the radio I mentioned - 6 stacker with harden karmen speakers. I thought the cd560 was a D3 radio.

    Again depending on what RRS you are talking about you will loose the clock - no worry - but you need to work out if you can access your command menu with the new radio fitted - if not you will not be able to change settings.

    Good luck with it.

    It's a 2006, will have to look into what we might lose feature wise, the D3 has the cd400 radio, the sport shows CD stacker icons on the LCD, that's if you look carefully as it won't turn on..
    We can't find any sign of an amp anywhere though

    You can buy a fascia kit with loom for a double din android unit, I plan to ad a 7" android unit to my 08 d3 into the space where the GPS would go and piggyback the factory wiring to keep the cd400 unit.

    So you would then just use the cd400 on aux and wire the android unit into that?

    Stereo upgrades for d3 and rrs

    Garrycol and loanrangie' summaries provide most of the info you need to know. There's more info on Disco3, and aeropro and another company do fitting kits for double din radios. As mentioned though you lose the ability to select certain menus.

    As for the amp, the fittings kits I have seen bypass the amp and insert a 'redundant loop to the MOST optic fibre network. Then you have to drive the sub off of a stand alone amp. I recently spoke with Sound in Motion on the Sunshine Coast and I am considering fitting a double din unit at the sacrifice of the clock reset ability and command settings.

    That said; if you really want the clock reset you can just disconnect your battery at midnight, and I believe (unconfirmed) you can set command settings with IID Tool.

    From memory the quote I got from Sound in Motion was about;
    Fitting kit - $280
    Fitting - $250
    Sundries - $100
    Double din unit - to be determined by unit selected
    Steering wheel interface - $70

    Then if desired sub interface/upgrade;
    Sub - $550 (it's a shallow box sub)
    Cable - $90
    Amp - $370 incl fitting

    This is all for a D3

    Correct, guy on disco3 forum has done it and over a few PM's he has confirmed he is happy with the results.
