Hi there,
does anyone one have any recent experience with “BCautos” in Sydney? They have a pretty impressive price on the long roof rails Black OEM style Roof Rail for Land Rover Discovery 3 4 2004-16 Extended Length – BC Autos
I’ve reviewed posts on the forum from several years ago but there is nothin* recent. I’ll just be attaching cross bars as needed for bike racks, max tracks etc- nothing extreme.
My my experience with the original equipment to this point is getting massively overcharged for a fair quality item!
Thanks

Watch out for them being misaligned and actually twisting on your roof mounts.
I just use 3x Rhino aero bars and feet with the long wire platform and remove the front bar for noise reduction when only using the small basket on the rear two bars. Not overly expensive at all

Keep your current factory short tracks then add front tracks and use rhino legs and bars. And cage of choice https://roofrack.com.au/product/rhin...ry-3-4-tracks/ then use

I went through this only last month. I looked at getting the same style of aftermarket rails but didn’t want to take the risk of non genuine.
This is the link to my post.

TAKE NOTE!! When you take the caps off that hold the strip down, get a thread tap thing to clean the crap out, I broke a nut off and it was a PITA to fix.
I bought these and were delivered to work the next day. (Melbourne)

I can’t agree enough. You MUST tap the thread right through. I suspect they get gummed up with sealant in the build process and the bolts will not go down far enough. All of mine were in need of retapping.

My threads had little almost clear plastic plugs in, quite difficult to see, that I flicked out with a small screwdriver blade. Powerful UK have a good installation video.
Thanks to all; after checking out the after market ones and the genuine rails in the flesh I went the genuine rails. Shopping the dealers saw them quote anywhere from $860 (pushed for trade price) to nearly $1100, and $409 for fitting!! The local parts shop though took a fair bit off though when I was there which made it more palatable.
The install was easy too; not 4 hours according to the the dealer! Less than 2 hours with a head lamp on in the dark. Whilst the guys on the YouTube clip use that silly drill bit which minces the rail, I bought a Suttons bi-metal holesaw bit which gave an awesome finish. I’ll probably never need it again if anyone’s interested in it...
and i agree, the threads needed a clean up with a tap. Fortunately pincers got the fir tree plugs out unbroken no there was no need to drill out.
Thanks again
What was the main reason for choosing genuine?
could you buy the $200 after market ones and pay a spray shop $200 to paint them properly for the same outcome or is there something wrong with the design themselves?
what was the final price you got?
