Can you replace factory raised intake with a Safari Snorkel?

Sorry if it has been posted before.

have a factory raised air intake fitted. Does a Safari kit cover where these are fitted?

The factory RAI has two nutserts installed above the air intake. The Safari requires there to be three holes drilled around the air intake - however, when the body is installed - it would cover the two nutsert holes. So I say it would fit.

BTW, you require long, noodle-forearms to fit the Safari. The bolt that goes into the top left corner (closest to rear vision mirror) is a shocker to get to. I suggest paying someone to fit it!

    Cheers,
    Rob

Why would you want to replace the Landrover RAI? It suits the vehicle better and can readily be sealed.

The Safari is uglier, and required cutting a chunk out of the inner guard..
IMO that’s a no from me!

Sorry for slight hijack. I much prefer the look of the RAI to the Safari but would prefer it to be waterproof. I've had a look around but apart from discussions around the bend piece having holes which can be sealed and mention that the hose is not actually waterproof, I can't find a thread which outlines in detail how to waterproof the RAI (or is CaverD3's post it? DISCO3.CO.UK - View topic - Removable Snorkel) Ritter will do it - they will install it but don't sell a kit.

    Thanks,
    David

    RAI vs Snorkel

Each to their own, i have had both and fitted both myself. Must say the pity with the proper sealed Safari one is the cutting of the inner guard which put me off a subsequent purchase, the RAI is so much easier to fit and no cutting to the inner guard. I don't mind the look of the RAI but would prefer it to be a proper sealed unit. both have their benefits and shortfalls if only there was one unit that did both, sealed and was easy to install with no guard chopping.

The airflow required some trimming of the inner guard which you dont see once fitted anyway , i dont plan on removing it either.

Wasn't there a discussion some years back about which unit flowed more air? My memoery might be failing me but I seam to remember that the Safari was given the nod as not only being waterproof standard but also for flowing more air.

I have a Safari fitted to the D3 but reckon the RAI unit looks much better. The one thing that annoys me about the V8 D4 is it uses both air intakes.
    Cheers,
    Terry
