A wrecker would be my first port of call or maybe some of the long range tank suppliers as well.
Just had the misfortune to have the fuel tank on our D3 have a hole worn through it two days before News Years eve in country NSW. There were several large dents in the steel cover from off roading from a couple of years ago, anyway as the tank has got older it started to bulge out the top of the cover when full and the drive shaft rubbed a hole in it.
The reason I am mentioning this is our D3 is a 2005 model and as it turns out a new replacement from LR is not quite the same tank, same specs but different fittings suppoesedly which the dealers workshop weren't aware of when they originally ordered the tank, steel cover and sender from LR.
Once the dealer received the tank they found it couldn't be fitted and had to then order a kit that included an addition to the wiring harness, a different fuel filler hose and some other bits and pieces to make the new tank actually work which took several more days to arrive and be fitted.
Not sure what year LR changed the tank design but that means there are at least two different tank models that D3/4 may have. So if you ever have a tank fail be aware that not all Disco 3/4 tanks are easily interchanged.
Cheers,
Terry

Sure and that is what I would have done as well if it was not two days before New Years and we weren't over 1,000 kilometres from home and just wanting to get it fixed so we could move on.
But even if the wreckers had been open and I had bought a second hand one who is to say it would have been a compatible tank given there is at least two variations of the standard fuel tank out there? Maybe it's common knowledge that there are two different tanks, but the Dealer didn't know there was and in the nine years of owning a D3 I had never heard of this before.
Buying a Long Range tank wouldn't have fixed it either, as long range tanks supplement the original tank rather than replacing it.
Cheers,
Terry
