    Air Strut Import_Restricted Item

    Has anyone recently imported air struts from the UK.

    I found the below on the Rimmer Bros website.


    Product Description

    Includes air spring, shock absorber and spring housing nuts.

    Restricted Item

    Due to the hazardous nature of this item, it cannot be exported.

    We can ONLY ship via UPS Carrier to England, Scotland & Wales, mainland destinations only - NO ISLANDS. )

    This item CANNOT be sent by air or via the Royal Mail.

    A Minimum Carriage Charge of £7.95 will apply.

    Yeah. Different suppliers use different couriers who will ship them. It’s due to the compressed gas within the strut I believe. Some suppliers just don’t want to use different couriers I guess. Mine came via DHL air no worries.

    Yep. Dangerous Goods by air regs don’t permit carriage of gas-charged shockies on passenger aircraft. Freight aircraft, such as DHL, FEDEX etc may have slightly different regs.
    I suspect that all airfreight to ‘the islands’ is serviced by passenger aircraft only, hence the restriction.

    I read the IATA regulations quite a while ago now and the restriction does not affect gas shocks as the volume of gas is too small.
    But the air freight companies play it safe by refusing everything.
    That doesn't help much but the way it is. You can freight Konis as they don't have gas.

    Depends on the model of Koni, i had gas/hydraulic in my D1 - awesome shocks.

    I imported rear struts last year from Advance Factors - no issue getting them sent

    I ordered my 2 rear units last weekend from Advanced Factors and arrived by airfreight to Brisbane on Wednesday will be delivered to my house in Cairns Monday

    The only they would be restricted is if the shocks are gas charged.

    The shocks are gas charged but only low pressure. The piston always extends to maximum but can be hand-pressed.
