Caravan parking near port of melbourne?

Very very off topic.. but we are heading to tassie with the d4 in two days and couldn’t fit the caravan on the boat due to a public holiday down there.

We we now have to find a home for the van for 9 days, does anyone have any recommendations for free parking in the area? We keep it on the road outside our house in Sydney so we will probably just do that but thought I would check in case anyone had any tips for somewhere safe

If you're happy to leave it unattended in that area for that long (I wouldn't) there are some wide streets with free 24 hour a day parking but not sure how long the Council would allow a van to sit there before they would consider it abandoned and tow it to be honest.

Will think a bit and see if I can think of anything.

Depending on where your coming into Melb from, and where your going out from Melb to, you could leave it at any number of caravan parks for the 9/10 days. It'd cost you, but at least it would be somewhat safer than just leaving it on a road somewhere.
I'm sorry we don't have room for it here, otherwise we could hold it for you. Maybe someone else will come along with a good offer for you.
There are also various storage sites available, but I would suggest these would be even more expensive again.

Err, If Luke is going to Tassie, then he is not going from the Port of Melbourne, but from Port Melbourne, which is a very different thing. Can't remember the last time I saw unrestricted parking anywhere near there.

However, some of the bigger truck stops "might" let you leave one there. There is parking at the twin United servos at the foot of the Westgate, but I would put it to them first. Also, the twin Mobil's, or are they 7-11's now, on the ring road.

I do know of somewhere in Belgrave that would do at a pinch, but it's out of the way, and there are no guarantees.

Up parts of Salmon street, Plummer street and Williamstown Road and surrounds in the Commersial and Industrial areas is all unrestricted. South of Williamstown Road in the residential areas is a different story.

We have a branch on Willy road - I often park along there all day. A lot is angle parking but there is plenty of parallel parking too.

You could ask the Crystal Brook caravan in Warrandyte if they had a spot for storage and what they would charge you. Its a nice park as well for a short stay in Melbourne.

Ahhh isn't it refreshing to find someone with such faith in mankind.

Mate, do not leave it on a street in a commercial area, once it has been there for a day or two, and has been noticed...when you return it will either be gone, have smashed windows etc, or be burnt out.
