    Oil leak. 2013 3.0 TDv6

Hi guys. I am looking at buying a Discovery 4. Had a look underneath today and found some oil. I can see that there's some oil leaking from the t piece for the turbo drain pipe. I have seen that there's a modification for this but my concern is the oil all over the bottom of the turbo? Looks like the car has seen some beach work by the looks of the starter motor 😳

The oil pipe mod hasn't been done as far as i can see... and there looks to be soot on the top part of the tube so that can be a bit of an issue if there is an exhaust housing leak...
    Got any more pics?

Thanks Justin C, it was pretty hard to get a good pic of it. Getting it up on a hoist would be my next step. Yes the soot was a concern. Car done 111k

Honestly the exhaust leak can be a big problem. Could even require an actual turbocharger. I would probably look for a better D4 example unless it is VERY cheap

JC, do you have a photo of the drain pipe with the mod done, it would be good to see the comparison. Do you know when was the mod introduced, from what build date/VIN

    Thanks

PeterI did the oil mod a few months ago and noticed a bit of oil around the starter motor area.Could not see any obvious oil leaks in the area, but later on noticed an oily hose when viewed from the top,it's the one with a blue dot on it.Very loose fit onto the pipe ie no clip,IMG_20180316_101622_BURST1.jpgNo idea where it goes but very oily/sooty lookingOily Hose 4.jpg.The modified pipe LR087351 is shorter than the original so enters the block above the starter motor.

You can check to see if the mod has been done by looking behind the RH front wheel below the chassis, behind the anti roll bar.If you see a blanking plate with two allen screws, the shorter oil drain has been installed. If not, follow these directions to change DISCO3.CO.UK - View topic - D4 Secondary turbo drain modification LTB00487 with photos

Thanks Eddy, I will check it out this week sometime, particularly the top hose you identified.
