Also, although the gearbox fault light will illuminate, it's not a problem that needs to be cleared to go away, just plug it back in when you get home and it will clear itself for those without a IID tool yet.
Just thought this was worth a thread for those trying to eliminate possible causes of a knock/clunk, kind of sounding like a LCA. I finally nailed it down to the transfer case after reading another members post and because it started to make the wheels judder from 3/4 to full steering lock.
Probably the easiest and most difinitive test of elimination, put car in neutral, jump out and pull the plug on the transfer case solenoid. If it goes away, you know what it is.
Changed the oil and performed the two calibrations and it now drives 100% again(note I did try both calibration only before, and just a fluid change, and no difference, I had to do the calibrations after the fluid change). It was 40,000 KMs since the last change, and fluid was still full just dirty.

While on the subject, it was $140 for 2L of the Ravenol Special oil required, shipped from the U.K for $26 cheaper than the dealer of course.
The symptoms started with clunking while taking a corner, and what felt like a worn half shaft as you get clunking when applying the throttle after a long distance brake. Or a CV as the clunk while cornering....
Sorry, what do you mean by transfer box calibration?
I've changed my diff oils tonight and will be doing the transfer box tomorrow night but unsure what else is involved (i have no symptoms or issues, this is maintenance only)
Thankfully the diff oils were very clean so I'm hoping the transfer box is as healthy!
Clutch Calibration under Transfer Case in the IID Tool manual.
Up to you if you want to do it, after the results i got, I'd say a fluid change does affect the clutch calibration so would be worth doing, only takes 2 minutes.
Who shipped the oil? I went through the process. FedEx and Royal Mail don’t ship oil and if they did it means that it wasn’t declared properly which can cause big problems if discovered. So I ended up deciding against it. But if you have a company which will allow the shipment of oil from the UK I would be interested to know.
