I’ve plasti dipped three sets of wheels now, it’s surpisinglu good.

i take these wheels off-road, on beaches and have lasted a couple of years and unless you hit a gutter or rocks it doesn’t peel up.

you can’t do gloss black but you can do a flat or satin black quite well. I’ll find some photos to show the outcome

I’ve plastidiped my wheels and they came up pretty good. A bit of maintenance every now and then. Not as easy to clean as an alloy as you need to be careful of some chemicals stripping it off. But hot soapy usually does the job. Think it’s a good cheap option and can always go back to original down the track.

I had a Stornoway Grey D4 and had black GOE 18s with 285 LTZs .... looked awesome. Even LC drivers complimented the look...gives the car 'presence'.

Whatever you do, don't paint them black with a brush. Near Central Station this afternoon I walked past a black D3 with black painted wheels, not a good look with all the brush strokes. I guess from a distance you wouldn't see that.

Wow that is sloppy! Surely they never expected that to look good?!

and I agree with plasti dip, it’s surpringly good but it will never be as good as a factory alloy which I why I’m on this search

    Hi Luke,

I can't remember if you have a 3.0 or 2.7 TDV6. If it's the latter you can fit a range of aftermarket 17" alloy rims finished ex factory in black. CSA do a range of 17" rims with the same stud spacing as D4 / VW Amarok (5/120 PCD) with a maximum safe load rating of 1250kg per rim. I can send a photo of our D4 if this helps.

The advantages of 17"rims are the increased range in both tyre sizes, tyre load ratings and the increased tyre sidewall height that come with the smaller diameter rim. While 18" tyres are becoming more widely available in 'the bush' these days, because 17" rims are still favored by many Japanese manufacturers, particularly for their mid range vehicles, this tyre size is readily available away from major centres and often at a cheaper price. The trade-off might be a slight decrease in on-road steering response.

    Hi Craig

thanks, I was completely unaware I had the option for 17 inch wheels, I will most likely stick to 18” for asthetic reasons I will certainly have a look.

    appreciate it
