    Front Runner RWC Question

I am considering the Front Runner RWC to carry my second spare. I have read all the threads and this looks to be the best for me. I am not fitting a long range tank so the original spare will remain located underneath (I have ordered one of the spare wheel winder relocation devices from the UK to allow the false floor to go in and still get to the spare underneath). I am just getting too old to get the spare up and down from the roof rack and it takes up too much space there anyway.

Because I won't be using it full time I intend to remove it when not in use. That means I will need to source some sort of plastic cap for the tube in the bumper plus I will need to get the large ball bearing out from the tube as this needs to be inserted into the post before it is fitted. My question is this. Since this ball bearing will be encased by grease is it possible to get it out using one of those magnetic tools. Has anyone done this?

    Many thanks for any information.

Can’t answer the Wheel carrier question.

What I can offer is a note, check the remote wheel winder is compatible with your vehicle - they changed the bolt in the top at some point and the wonders wouldn’t fit. This may have been resolved or it may not.

I think that change is from MY14 (certainly is the case on mine) - the winder has an eye rather than a 22mm nut - presumably to stop people getting on it with a rattle gun and stuffing the mechanism. David

edit: just checked and it looks like they've made an adaptation to cover the new style eye: Winder-O-Matic Discovery 3/4

I looked at the FR RWC but heard too much negative about them like an independent not being able to give me a fixed price quote to fit "because they're all different....". Doesn't say much for their QC so I went for a Rijidij.
Good quality and fitted well if not quite as quickly as it says in the instructions...... but that was just me being ultra careful I suppose.

The rear wheel winder actually arrived today and it fits both the hex nut and the flat winder with the hole in it (like I have). They have slotted the socket but I knew that prior to ordering.

I am aware of the Rijidij but just prefer the way the Front Runner sits. I have quite a few other Front Runner parts on both my cars and have been happy with all their stuff. My installer has given me a fixed price. He has done many of them.

Anyway if someone has one of these i would like to know if they can easily be removed and refitted when required.

Can anyone with the Front Runner RWC tell me how easy they are to remove and reinstall?

I installed the spare wheel winder relocation device this weekend. The slotted socket that came with it needed to be modified because the spigot (if that is the work for it) in the later models is tapered. It was a simple job with the angle grinder to fix that. I sealed up the hole around the winder with a piece of PVC pipe which was a perfect fit. I also removed the plastic surround from the bottom of the third row of seats (two small screws on each of these) and added some additional rubber to keep the winder firmly in place. Now with a hole in the false floorI can access the winder and the next step is to install my rear drawer.
