    The Sales Prevention Department

Lazily lounging on the couch over the weekend, I was watching Pat Callinan extolling the virtues of his new insurance arm, Club 4X4. "Insurance for 4X4 enthusiasts" etc etc. Pat was doing such a relentless job of pitching his own business, I picked up the iPad and went through the tedious process of filling in their online quote form, just to see if they'd do better than my current insurer.

    2016 D4 SE - tick.
    $10,000 worth of add-ons - tick.
    $40,000 off-road camper trailer - tick.
No claims in the last 5 years - tick.

On and on it went. Finally, I hit the submit button. "We're sorry, your quote request is outside our parameters," or some such nonsense. "Here is a list of other insurers you might like to try."

Silly me. And there I was, thinking me and my near-new D4 and high-end Pioneer camper trailer would be exactly the kind of target market they'd be looking for. I felt I might have been in the wrong joke. A bit like John Cleese in the famous Monty Python cheese shop skit.

So I wrote them a curt note in their 'send us a message' field, that began "Fair dinkum you blokes..."

That was two days ago. I haven't heard back, by phone or email. Like most businesses, they seem to have a well-tuned Sales Prevention Department.

Has anybody else had any experience with this mob?

Had a very similar experience, after going through all the online BS my caravan was not in the generic model, and no followup. I did get a quote for the car at one point and it certainly was a premium premium.

Club 4X4 is just selling a re-branded Hollard Insurance product. It's a bit like Shannons, they offload the risk to Suncorp.

A bit off topic, but how's it going down south, Greg?

We are currently busy organizing the Kimberley Karavan Owners Group national gathering at Big Valley Camp Ground near Margaret River so are spending a bit more time in the area than usual.

Had a similar experience...Filled out the relentless form, submit... quote received.

TWICE the price I’m paying now.... The Sales Prevention Department

So I email them immediately; “your pricing is ludicrous, please do NOT follow up with me.” How wrong I was! Spam galore until I rang them...

Anywho! They recently had a longer term client have an electrical fire on his 4wd (not altogether uncommon).
Turns out they don’t cover electrically energised fires!
And just recently they called something else I can’t remember at this moment.

Give them a wide berth would be my advice.

As far as I am aware, Suncorp owns Shannon's. Anybody know the veracity of this?

I finally got fed up and rang them. "Systems issues" was the excuse for not getting back to me. Turns out their premiums are considerably higher than what I'm already paying with APIA, so I'll give them a wide berth too.
