It may well have been – it'd be interesting to see if there are any fault codes to provide a bit of explanation. Don't suppose you've got an IIDtool or similar?

How long since you last had the fuel filter changed? Common rail diesels really don't like dirty fuel; dirty fuel is a really good way to buy yourself an expensive service! Fuel filters seem to be one of those things that gets missed sometimes, so I reckon it's worth taking a specific interest in it.

My "preventative" diesel care regime is this: shock treat the fuel system with Fuel Doctor every service (5,000km) and 30ml in with every refill. The Land Rover maintenance check sheet calls for a change every 24 months under normal conditions or 12 under arduous, but I do it every service. They're cheap, it doesn't do any harm and it might actually do a whole lot of good.

That's my two cents worth, anyway. Hope your Disco behaves itself :-)

After the fifth time was all good? if so...

*You will find it hadnt purged all the air out of the system, regardless of how long you believed you had it idling for.
*There actually is a valve on the top rear of engine that is used to purge the air out, but obviously you need to have a fitting to go on it and something to collect the diesel.
*I also (highly) recommend changing fuel filter at every 10K service intervals.

So where do you buy these so called cheap fuel filters. Rarely see them under $100 and sure in the scheme of a fuel system replacement that's cheap.

i can buy 3 fuel filters for our 35ltr cat engines in our trawlers for less than 1 fuel filter for my D3 , so for my money they ain't cheap at all .

I get my service parts online from the UK, usually. I've bought one genuine (£80) and one Britpart OEM (£50) service kit from Island 4x4 so far – trying them out to see if I can appreciate any difference (currently have the Britpart OEM in it). The service kit comes with all filters and a sump plug. Dunno what the breakdown is on the individual filters, but it seems like reasonable value to me. Delivered for around $50AUD.

The earlier D3 fuel filter is about $40 cheaper , but the later D3 & assume D4 filter is outrageously priced. Sadly once again it seems we have to shop oversea's for parts , which is just crazy . I don't mind paying a bit more to support local , but to be blatently robbed as it seems when you look at local prices , is not something I plan to accept

Yet to Service my replacement. Not sure about the age of the filter but its being replace in the morning. Nice Gents at AMV had been servicing it for the prior owner. I was told its not due for another 5k

20km past last 3 amigos and no problems. Oddly I filled up tonight an noted 82 litres went in. I had topped up 10 litres and assumed about 3 plus left in the tank. No way I used 10. The 82 tonight was very interesting.

P0191 P2290

P0191 Fuel Rail Pressure Sensor "A" Circuit Range/Performance
P2290 Injector Control Pressure Too Low

Potential causes for this code to set are: High fuel pressure Low fuel pressure Damaged FRP sensor Excessive resistance in the circuit Vacuum leaks Low or no fuel

I am pretty sure it is dirty or no fuel. Have to wait till I check the filter tommorrow. What is a little odd is I have run a few thousand km to date and had no issues with the car suggeting range 30km at least once. (I do not like or usually to go so low)

Cleared the faults and went for a spin. Not at all surpirsed their is no faults now. Suspect is now the fuel gauge.

I ran 500m from work to the servo on fumes and on the slight downhill it stalled, on the flat it restarted and I coasted to the pump.
No lights and no error codes.
