We put ours on the roof rack, which got it higher.
Hey guys,
Was just looking for some ideas on mounting a sand flag to the D4 with out a bull bar. Was thinking off of the roof rack or a bracket out of the front grill, but just wanted to see what other had done.
Cheers

We put ours on the roof rack, which got it higher.
Roof rack mount made from an air fitting. The female side of air fitting is at bottom of flag pole.
At that height the flag pole only needs to be 2m high.

As per Scott’s example, make sure it’s solid.......
Although effectiveness I’m now 100% sold on.

I believe it’s only the Simpson desert that requires a sand flag. I haven’t seen it mentioned for other deserts but I haven’t really looked either.
There are some benefits of fitting one (we are like like sheep and follow each other) but I reckon the benefits are talked up more that what they actually are but that just my opinion. If it’s not a requirement than I personally wouldn’t fit one but I’m sure others along track would let me know about it.....like the dickhead on Knolls Track that gave me a spray about UHF Radio, oh the shock on his face when I selected 1st and drive off mid spray. For the record I did have a flag fitted, this was prior to minimum height and size come in. I fitted the biggest UHF antenna I could find and tied a Rag to the end of it.
You need a Simpson Desert pass. When you apply it explains about the sand flag.
Ok, I guess I need to read the various passes/permits for the Canning and work out what their minimum/requirement is. The biggest problem would be the fact it travels through so many different lands and communities AND no one talks, so there would be different ideas.
I am planning to get a 3m flag which can be shortened, that way we have it for anywhere else we choose to venture, just curious for the particular "standard" reasoning.
