D4 will provide a little more cargo space and option of available accessories otherwise the RRS might fit the bill, when looking for my D3 i also came across some RR's for a reasonable price and did consider buying one.
I’m looking to replace my D2a with a late model D4, preferably a SDV6 SE, but these are proving to be elusive at a reasonable price.
In the process I’m coming across a few RRS SDV6 SE, probably slightly older but again relatively low mileage, and probably only used on the black top.
Are there any disadvantages with an RRS compared to a D4? It will be used as a second car, some light duty towing, and general extended touring. I’m looking for something with plenty of room that will basically go anywhere, but probably won’t do much if any heavy off-road work.

I think Nick has hit the nail on the head - so it really depends how you plan to use the vehicle and what you want to do with it.
After market accessories - more available for D3 / D4 .
Storage space - tonnes more in a D3 or D4
Also if you would 7 seats useful..... can't do that with the RRS.
However if none of those are show stoppers for you - RRS is a great car.

Disco Sport, Evoque and Velar are out due to limited storage space and I have no need for 7 seats. The D5 just doesn’t appeal to me.
I am after a comfortable tourer that will go basically anywhere with care, but not a bush basher, or something that has been used as such. Initially the only change would be possibly the tyres and rims.
I’d like to see the new Defender, but it will be years before the initial bugs are sorted.

I drive a 2014 D4 SDV6 while my boss drives an 2017 RRS SDV6. We both agree that the ride in the D4 is much more comfortable. The RRS (and another we have in our car park) give a much sportier but harsher ride. The D4 is far more practical too.

Had a visitor with an RRS parked in the back yard last weekend. I jumped in it with him for a run around the block, and I got in the driver's seat to reverse his camper trailer into the corner in my back yard. It's the first time I've had a decent look at an RRS.
While I did like the sound of that V8 diesel, I actually felt "cramped" in the driver's seat compared to the D4. I agree with WhiteD3's comment that the D4 is more comfortable - certainly felt that way to me even after only a short time in the RRS. As for practicality and room in the back, the D4 wins hands down.
Personal taste - I think the D3 / D4 is also a better looking vehicle - has a greater "presence" on the road and is more instantly recognizable than the RRS, which is really quite similar in shape to many other run-of-the-mill wagons on the road these days (this is also one of the reasons why I am NOT a fan of the D5).
But depending on your needs and preferences, either is a great vehicle. With only a few exceptions, they are basically the same vehicle, just with a different body dropped over the same running gear.

If you want a little bit more “plushness” in the D4,, see if you can find one with the Windsor Leather pack,,, very soft and a tad more comfy than the standard leather.
