Who's blaming the manufacturer?
I'm talking about the owner. Why would you travel that road with not even a spare fuel filter?
I've been driving in the bush for the best part of 40 years , and the last ten of those years have seen a massive increase in the amount of people seeking assistance from others, because they were too naive or too ignorant, to prepare themselves and their vehicles for the conditions they are likely to encounter, once they leave the comfort of the cities.

Future proofing your vehicle for a trip is more than making sure that the vehicle is in tip top shape the driver him/herself need to learn a few basic bush skills and learn what equipment/tools they are likely to need as well as what spares/filters they will need to carry to get themselves out of trouble.
Even if you don't know which end of a spanner to use carrying the right tools and the spares will at least give you a fighting chance.
Future proofing is more a state of mind than anything else, You can't just jump into your flash 4WD without any preparation/knowledge and think that everything is going to be hunky dory because sometimes it isn't [thumbsupbig]
I'd suggest the quality of vehicle has improved out of sight in that time, such that they are now so reliable (at least around the city, where they spend 98% of the time) that the idea of a break down is completely foreign to most people. Myself included - without reading up first, I would not immediately think to pack a fuel filter.Quote:

Breakdowns can happen to anyone, anytime. Being prepared can make the difference between it being an inconvenience, or a show-stopper.Quote:

That was for anything approaching or exceeding 40 miles! Mind you, we did always have British cars. After WW2, Dad refused to own anything Japanese or German.
