I just put Nitto Terra Grappers on my RRS - $195 each and so far have been great. Not an aggressive AT but good enough - quiet on the road, grip is good in the wet and online reviews are good.

I think you are right Tombie. This is what I'd originally thought after hearing good reports inc. a mate who's on his second set (D3). I guess I just liked the look & reviews the KO2's were getting. I guess the on road manners would be a little better with the 697's but not as good off road. Thanks again.Quote:

Bridgestones would be good too, just didn't think they'd be as good as BFGs. Also the Good Year Duratrac is a great tyre but they have a slightly thinner side wall I think, but I like the tread better than the KO2, if they had a stronger side wall I think the Duratrac would be much more popular. Good Year make great off road tyres!
(by the way, the BFG KM3 their new generation mud tyre should be coming out really soon)
Should be able to get a decent price on them too if you shop around, Bob Jane were pretty good with me.

What’s your take on side-wall ply? Do you know what a ply is, or how there’s more to it than just the cord - and the side wall is more than just that again.
We have a group here that get products and we trial them - an example is the current MTs on my D4.
We have guys running tyres, winches, suspension amongst other gear and reporting on it.

I had AT3s and wouldn’t buy them again. 3 flat tyres in 6 months. The marginal load rating is the problem I think.
I had scorpions and they drove well but wore out very quickly.
I’m getting very good mileage from Duellers 697 but they’re very noisy at speeds <70kph...a constant moaning noise. No flats or problems in 3 years and good off-road and in the wet.
Next to try will be K02 or Toyos (recommended by dealer).
I am using 18" 697's and don't experience the load speed noise you mention, although they only have 10k kms on them.Quote:

I rarely notice the D697 at speed over the kids, music, or even wind noise. I sometimes notice them during heavy cornering. Considering how they perform and wear I will most likely get them again.

FWIW, on bitumen the D697s are at 45 psi and the Scorpions are at 40psi.
