The pads I am assuming are LR pads as each time I had the work done it was at a LR dealer.

After a big day travelling (we call a big day travelling with the van approx. 350 kms) the wheels and spokes are nearly black from the brake dust!
That will be what’s eating your rears..

LR pads are metal, so eat the rotors just as quickly, and their rotors aren’t the hardest material.

Add to that the dust churned from the front, it goes straight into the rear pads accelerating their wear.

Also sounds like your TSA is really working at times to generate such dust levels.

I’d suggest looking for a T2 or T3 slotted rotor and some ceramic based pads.

Could be? I feel a lot of movement of the whole rig when for instance a semi trailer overtakes, or when I go down a steep hill and the rig starts to speed up.

I mentioned that to the Service Adviser when he called after I answered an after service survey questionnaire. He said (surprisingly!) to wtch out for non genuine LR parts as they can cause more issues than solve them. Recounted a story of a guy who got a local mechanic to replace brake pads and the whole hub assembly disintegrated

Your service guy is scare mongering.
After doing the replacement myself I can assure you a quality aftermarket (DBA in my case) is a higher quality part than the factory units that came off.

Not LR but still an example, my honda civic hatch (wife's car) is an awesome car, but the rear brakes wore out at i think 50,000km, i replaced the rear pads only with aftermarket. The dealer remarked at how long I got out of the set and that other customers only got about 30,000 out of the rears! Some anomoly with the hatches apparently. Got 130,000 out of the fronts though, 140,000km on it now and rears are due again, at least i got more out of this set. I like DBA gear for aftermarket.
