    D4 - Blind spot monitors

    I posted this query over in the technical section a week or so ago, but haven't had a response.

    My D4 has the in-mirror blind spot monitors but Land Rover don't fit them with an audible alarm, just the lights. Has anyone ever tried to make them audible as well?

    A google doesn't bring anything up.

    (Mind you, since the system is constantly warning me about trees and parked cars, the lack of audible warnings may be a blessing.)

    Love it Tombie. If a driver needs any of the so called safety gimmicks on so many cars today... lane keeping assistance, too close to vehicle in front rubbish, blind spot, or traffic passing behind stuff, they should give up their licence.
    No doubt the whizz kids will come up with a special app. to stop drivers using the phone as well soon... I think a kick up the arse would do the job better.
    Take this sort of crap out of cars and maybe drivers would concentrate on the road in front a bit more.

    PS. Can anyone tell me how to turn off the bloody annoying reversing warning thing? Can I do it with an IID Tool?

    As far as I'm aware every other manufacturer that fits these things has them with an audible warning. And re driving I've had a licence for 35 years, was driving on the farm long before then, did a defensive driving course through my school and in the 35 years since them I've caused one accident - so, no, I don't need it, but if it's there it might as well work.

    Not sure it was actually rude but as far as I'm concerned the thing we should all be doing is watching the road ahead and monitoring everything going on behind and beside us at all times. I think most of the so called safety aids are just useless gimmicks.
    I bet there are many many accidents caused by these awful convex mirrors which give a really bad view of what's around you...... nothing like a swift turn of the head for a quick check to really see what's there but all our so called safety experts reckon you should just check mirrors.
    "Mirror, signal, and manoeuvre when safe to do so" was what I was taught and I'll keep driving like that and not rely on stupid gimmicks.
    Over 50 years without causing an accident so it must be working.

    I’ve recently driven 3 different vehicles with the mirror based blind spot indicators.

    None had audible alerts.

    Only audible was for lane exit warning.

    They are called "blind spot" monitors for a reason - yes, I was taught how to set my rear mirrors, but I can't help but notice that the D4s left side mirror leaves blind spots however you set them.

    Head turns aren't much use if the B, C and D pillars are blocking your view, as is the case with many new cars, D5 included.

    I've had two cars come rocketing up the inside of me - speeding and undertaking, as the Brits call it, in the last week, as I was about to legally turn left. Properly speaking both cars were breaking the law but that wouldn't've been much comfort to anyone sitting on the left of my car.

    Interesting observation. I haven’t found a blind spot on my D4 mirrors.

    I wonder if they changed the glass profile.

    I added a small extra mirror to my nearside one to give a bit more view of idiots up the inside. No blind spot monitor can do everything as the idiots move so quickly with no indication of their intent so I still reckon if you can, a quick check over the shoulder helps.
    But nothing will save you from all the loonies who for some reason just cannot exercise any caution or be considerate on the roads.
    Yes too many vehicles have large rear pillars or B pillars blocking views.
