Thread: Tyres - but probably different

Had mine aligned when the new boots went on. I set it to TTM on the forecourt of the tyre place, then went inside to hand it over.

Bloke did a quick burn around the block (no idea why) only to come back and ask if this setting is what I normally drive in (there is a dash message explaining the suspension is not in a "customer mode", or something to that effect). This pro had clearly never seen this message before either.

Anyway, alignment done, with the comment of 'it was almost perfect to begin with, barely made a change'

As has been said plenty of times already - if it's not in TTM, walk away. There are no shortcuts here.

Meanwhile, i'm damn impressed that an 8 year old, 125kkm, 3t off roading machine is still near perfect...!

Veebs I wouldn't have let him drive it while in TTM. The manual specifically says it shouldn't be driven as it risks 'damaging components'. Not sure what that means, but not worth the risk.

The compressor will work overtime if driven in TTM.

Oh agree 100% - I thought he was simply moving onto the lift! (Workshop entrance was just around the corner)

Wasn’t more than 20 sec, so doubt it did any long term compressor damage (hope)

Or is even manoeuvring it a no no?

It’s not a problem, many put it in TTM at a dealer and drive 5km to an alignment shop.

For that time it isn’t an issue.

I have recently replaced the tyres on my D 4 (cooper "zeon's) which had over 60 000 km on them with new (just out) mickey thompson deegan 38's both were an A\T tyres, fitted to 20in wheels. The mickey thompson's are of a new silica compound. good road feel so far also good in the wet and are cheaper than the cooper's. I got mine from Tyrepower.
