    Snow chains for D4

    Hi Guys,

I'm thinking of heading up to Mt Hotham next week for a few days and they tell me I must at least carry snow chains up the mountain with me.

Any recommendation for best snow chains considering the D4 has BFG KO2 265/60 r 18 tyres in good condition. Don't really want to spend too much as will probably get little actual use ( float around in the back cargo area ) but will cover say the hire cost of 5 or so days of chain hire.

Any suggestions or recommendations appreciated. Thanks

Be careful - oversized tyres and chains can often equal panel damage...

Agree Tombie but unfortunately it is the law to at least carry snow chains within an Alpine Resort district in Victoria - not choice.

The 265/60 are only a half inch diameter larger and if you have chains fitted you will be driving and less that 50 kph so you can drive in offroad height if they are at all close. i don't have an answer for you but I am in Melbourne and have the same size tyres and I will bet sooner or later I will want the answer to this same question.

I'd love to drive in the snow but I'm guessing with the 285/60/18s there would be sparks and plastic everywhere …

If it is law just to carry a set, borrow some to "carry" in the back. Who cares if they don't fit, if you don't plan on using them?

Problem is, well from memory you don’t get to choose when to fit them......might mean you have to turn around and head home.

According to the Konig web site - the following wheel/tyre sizes are suited, however I did have them on my 265/60 18 (only a size check - never used them)
