Sat nav map update 2015 discovery

New to all this. I have a discovery 4 2015 which I love. Decided to update the map in the sat nav. Can buy a new map ( at an inflated price) but cannot work out how I physically update it. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks Bill

The disk is linked to your VIN so can only be used on your vehicle. It takes over an hour to load, so best to do it before a long journey as the motor needs to be running the whole time.
But be aware that the latest version is only accurate up to a few years ago (2014 from memory, but may be earlier), so make sure that you don't already have it.
I contacted support (same maps as TomTom from memory) but, although there are map updates, they are not available for the D4. Probably something to do with licensing arrangements with Landrover.
I upgraded because I couldn't see the point of not having the latest maps, but many here prefer Google Maps or Hema.

Thanks for your help. But how do you physically do it. Does the map go in the CD and how do I get the old one out

AFAIK, you put the update CD in, and it will autorun, loading the new map software. A friend was going to do the factory GPS in her SS Commodore, until she got the quote from the Holden dealer - not much change out of $1000 and as stated above, the software update is actually about 3-4 years old. $1K buys a lot of TomTom/Navman units (or even a couple of Hema or VMS ones!)

Sorry to seem like the village idiot but our old pajero had 2 CD slots . One for the music and one where the map disc lived permanently

As don54 says, the disk is an update that is only loaded into the player while it updates the satnav. The procedure is clearly spelt out on the disk cover as is quite easy to follow.

Here's a couple of links that may help.

    Updating SatNav Maps MY12+

Land Rover Australia - In-car GPS Upgrades for Australia and New Zealand - powered by TomTomĀ® maps

Personally, I went with a screen mounted sat nav for my 2013 D4. Lifetime updates that are current, red light camera and school zones alerts etc. Much better value and I find the stand alone sat nav is much better than the oem one although I presume that they have improved since I bought mine. Mine sits just to the left of the speedo binnacle basically on the dash. I don't have to take my eyes off the road for as long and it's not in my line of sight so no worries there. Yes I would rather the in dash setup but this is so much better. I can't understand why in this day and age LR can't supply up to date maps as in this month let alone last year of so.

Easy answer, all mobile phones have SatNav free and frequent free updates. Play thru bluetooth, easy.
