    Coolant for td5 and tdv6

Can anyone tell me definitively why I can't use a non oat coolant in these engines, we buy coolant in 200 litre drums and would like to just use the one type in everything...

The stuff we have says it's fine for aluminium and cast iron etc..
If that's the case why does oat still exist?

Here’s a short blurb on OAT coolant
    Coolant Experts
    And hybrid type
    Coolant Experts

Reading this it’s was manufacture and used due to “ traditional” coolants having nasty chemicals and not meeting newer regulatory requirements, that being said I’d say the coolant you’ve got would be of the same guise and meet all current legislative regs etc??

What is the type of coolant you’re intending to use? If it’s a hybrid type it’s probably ok but not 100%?? What are the other cars you intend to use it in?

No expert but some info all the same...

Thanks I'll have a look later...

This is the stuff that now goes in everything else, actually I've already changed the td5s over some time ago, in all honesty I've always run the correct coolant in my td5s, but the only Td5 I've ever done a head/head gasket on was on oat, and yet I've had another on , not mine, on the green stuff that should have been cactus from heat, but was fine,
I actually think the oat coolant gets mucky and creates hot spots...
Anyway I'm actually seriously considering going Evans waterless......
    In the tdv6s anyway..

It's a HOAT, I'd use it in a heart beat.

    Oh, wait, I'm using Cummins/Fleetguard HOAT in a TD5.

I wouldn't go Evans, heat transfer isn't anywhere near as good as a glycol/water mix, regardless of what they claim.
OAT's and now HOAT's claims to fame are long life and better heat transfer than silicate based corrosion inhibitors.

So that stuff is the go then? We bought it as a multi purpose coolant, you know one size fits all.... Well sometimes

As long as it actually meets the specs it's claiming I reckon it'd be fine.

I look at this way. If it meets CAT, Cummins, Mack, MAN etc. latest specs I reckon it's fine in our little diesels
