Surely somebody has used their Nanocom to look at EGR valves???????????
Mr Nanocom, would you know?

I asked this as an add on to another thread but don't think I got an answer so will ask on its own thread.
Using my Nanocom whilst driving I saw that the 2 EGR valves (D3 09 TDv6) move nicely inline with the commanded %. When at idle they eventually are commanded at 5% and move to 5% so I am pretty happy they are working correctly.
However, when I shut the car off, the command goes to zero but the actual % never goes below 5%. I seem to remember that accelerating up the steep freeway saw 0% command but 5% actual.
My question, will the actual % ever be 0% or is 5% the best that will be seen???? It might be that a carbon build up is holding the valves slightly open?
I am thinking about using emulators but cannot unless my valves are closed.

I seem to recall seeing 5% on my hawkeye , but never took much notice to be honest. I will try and plug it in over the weekend and see what it reads.
It is also possible mine could have carbon build up as they are the originals at nearly 11 yrs old and around 155,000 on the clock.
Cheers Ean
Hi Mk1_OZ, I have a GAP IIDTool, the values at engine off for my vehicle are about 4%, that is the valve closed value. Since the tool(s) are only reading an output voltage I would be surprised if the reported values were not directly comparable between the GAP diagnostics tool and the Nanocom but I can not confirm this. By the way, the valves go through a cleaning routine at engine shut down which takes about 3 seconds and cycles the valve to 90% so you should be OK.

Cheers Peter. Your 4% seems to agree with my suspicion that my 5% = closed
Thats why my Indie blanks them as well, when doing the power upgrade and EGR shut off.
They have found numerous times the reading to be incorrect.
Blanking is the only sure way to know they are completely shut.
A bit off topic, but thought maybe good info for some.
Yep - blank 'em off..... best thing I ever did for my engine....goes very nicely now.
cheers
