						Hi
Yesterday aboit 1km from home I noticed the engine fan had kicked in then next minute I lost power. Looked at the temp gauge and it was right up the top then suddenly the right light came on with the alarm. I quickly turned left to get off the main road and the temp instanly dropped down to nornal level. I limped the car in 1st gear with repeating once more. I then diagnosed the thermostat leaking and buy also looked like coolant coming out of the egr?? Anyway my question is does anybody think this overheat is enough to do other damage? Also can I top up the coolant and drive half an hour to mechanic? Or is there a chance the leak will be really bad?

If it’s a leak it sounds like the car caught it ok. Any leak quickly turns into a flood. It should be on its 3rd thermostat replacement by now but suspect it’s probably the original. Dont rely on it lasting.
sounds like the EGR cooler is leaking, i wouldn't want to be driving in traffic for 30mins like that unless you can minimise the leak to the point that its barely a drip.

						Thanks,
I came to the same conclusion. Have organised a tow. Had racv on the wrong car so ended up upgrading.
I thought long about fixing it myself but as we are heading off this long weekend I thought it was better to get an expert.
Will update with result from mechanic. Hopefullly no serious damage.
