I bet no one has ever touched your EPB despite you taking it in for service sadly. It needs annual maintenance with readjustment at a minimum to ensure the module is never over extended which is what you’ve experienced.

If the EPB is serviced what you've experienced will never happen.
Servicing is pretty simple; cleaning and adjustment.

However once it is over-extended it is possible to unjam.
Have a read of these threads for further details:

    EPB failure

If by restarting the car the fault clears and the epb releases you can do the adjustment and proceed as normal. The broken epb unit seems an often false first (expensive) diagnosis. Repairing the unit then becomes an option.

I assume with the discos you can release the handbrake by selecting drive and moving forward? If so would I be right in assuming this causes all the wear??

Would releasing the parkbrake manually (instead of driving off) reduce wear??

Now they saying to replace disc brake pads and disc rotors are damaged to park brake failing I thought disc brakes and handbrake have nothing to do with each other.how could handbrake have anything to do with disc pads and rotors is this a scam.

Discs and pads are replaced together, the park brake shoes contact the inside of the rotor same as a drum brake works.

As well the EPB is adjusted against the rear discs so when your rear discs are worn you can't get any adjustment out of the EPB. QED you have to replace the rear discs in order to have the full range of EPB adjustment.

A mate of mine with a D3 has just been through this whole, expensive experience. All due to the EPB not being serviced/cleaned/adjusted at each service. As a result he has changed service agents

Had our D4 serviced yesterday and the EPB was fine but close to the end of its range of adjustment which is no surprise given our duty cycle. So we replaced rotors and pads slightly earlier than required to make sure the rear braking system and EPB are good for at least another 10000km

Well had the job done and asked indie for the old parts.Opened up epb module and powered it with 12v battery works fine both ways no noises or issues. On all service invoices it’s says park brake serviced.Do these technicians just see a fault assume yep it’s stuffed replace part.Costly experience now I don’t know who to trust with car servicing dealer once also tried ripping me off as well.Might be time to sell? Thank you for all your posts
