    Replacement Head Unit

    Hi Guys,

Just thought I'd share some photos of the recent upgrade to the head unit of my 2012 D4 (Base model - no optioned speaker system).

I bought the latest Alpine head unit:
iLX-F309E Halo9 9-inch Floating Display Alpine Electronics of Australia

and had my local Autobarn install it, I must say he's done an absolute top job.

Yes I lost steering controls but gained apple/android car play, reverse camera, digital radio and a lovely 9 inch screen.

I found a lot of posts talked about the impossibility of the job and cost but to be honest, it wasn't as difficult once I went and sourced some expert opinions and the outcome has far exceeded my expectations.

Very interesting. Can you still access the basic functionality to set clock time etc?
I have the HSE and HK but would love Apple CarPlay. I want steering wheel control and to be able to set the clock still. It gives me nothing else I want or need though.

I've lost all functions that relate to replacing the radio, so Clock is one thing I've lost - I might be able to set it with the iidtool but unsure at this stage.

That's not too important to me as the head unit has a clock on it,

No steering controls either which is a slight downside but as the unit is pretty close, it's not a stretch.

Apple/Android car play is amazing and I'm very happy to have the accessibility, plus the USB port must be a fast charger as my phone charged full in about 30min of driving.

Like I said, going from a basic radio with limited features to a 9" fully featured unit was money well spent!
