Yes, it's a monocoque construction, they shaved about 400kg s off the kerb weight compared to a D4.

I was lucky enough to visit the Solihull UK plant last March and saw the production line. Very impressive. They produce 1500 cars per day, and all built to order. The D5 is made on the same line as the RRS, Velar, RR SVR and Jag F pace, all just in time manufacture.

I reckon that 400Kg is between the heaviest D4 (7 seat HSE plus all the trimmings) and the lightest D5. I had a TDV6 7 seat with leather base spec D4 and now a 5 seat SE spec D5. I think it is 120Kg lighter only.

Good thing though, is that the D5 has a much better payload.
    Cheers,

That is deceptive too. With the D4 you are allowed 150kg of tow ball weight and only any amount over 150kg has to be deducted from the payload.

With the D5 that 150kg allowed tow ball weight has disappeared. All tow ball weight has to be deducted from the payload.

But you’re right, when not towing it is better than the D4
