    D3 Faults - Body Control Module?

    D3 2009 2.7 TDv6 SE 140,000km

    Still love my car after nearly 10 years but I am finding things are failing at an increasing rate!! That's life I guess.....

    What has been happening;
    • on really hot days when the car has been sitting and heated up internally, after a short bit of driving I get a red fault light on the dash in the left of the LHS information display as shown. The centre info display says something about speed limited to 30mph although there is no physical speed limitation. Stopping and restarting the car makes this go away but if the internal car is hot it comes back. Once the aircon has cooled teh car it can be permanently cleared.

    • on 3 ocassions now I have had a fault that results in the car having zero power and I only just have enough power to creep to the side of the road. The dash shows an "F" where the gear selection should be and there were other lights but I was trying not to have an accident and could not take note of them all. Also, the centre info display showed a message that I cannot recall (sorry I know it is hard for you guys to help me when I can only give limited info!). I turned off the car, removed the key, waited 10 seconds then restarted and all was good.

    What Have I Done;
    • I tried to read the fault codes using my Nanocom but it says it cannot read the HVAC or Body Control ECU's and there are no relevant looking faults in the other modules.

    I don't want to take the car to the dealer or local indy as they love to change parts and I know they will order a new HVAC and Body Control ECU without any thought. This is an intermittent fault so I am hoping it is more of a communication issue. Does anybody have an experience with these faults or suggest what I might be able to do? What would cause the Nanocom not to be able to read these ECU's?

    As additional but probably unrelated info, I recently had a new instrument cluster installed but the car was perfect straight after installation. I had the gearbox oil changed at 70,000km.

    That symbol is for the air suspension, which correlates with the 30 kph message.

    Considering the other faults I suspect a voltage/electrical power problem, either the battery or the alternator.

    Will check both of those. The alternator was replaced 3 years ago so hopefully not that!!!

    I did put a rebuild kit through the air compressor a year ago as I smashed the aluminium bracket that holds it so thought I would do a recondition whilst I was down there. Might also double check for leaks.
