    D4 Windscreen cowl fix

Decided to recoat my windscreen cowl today, it was getting seriously greyed out from UV damage. We decided on using raptor system Where to Buy | RAPTOR COATINGS
looked so good decided to do a few more things. We Ended up doing two D4’s; windscreen cowls, engine covers, battery and brake reservoir covers, plus transmission pans.

    Some before and after photos.

Really easy, used a battery terminal puller to remove the wiper arms. SCA used to sell a dedicated tool, but couldn't find one. You need a puller as the wiper mounts are tapered, levering them off will damage or break the pivot.

Then you need to remove the rubber seal strip around the engine bay, slide a hand underneath and lift up. There's about 8 clips, they should pop out easily and stay on the cowl.

A tip would be to stuff a rag down left and right drain channels to prevent clips from falling down there and getting lost....

Man I'm now tempted to do the guards and bumpers in that. They are super faded too and the paint friendly restore gel i have only lasts a month or so...

Can you get it out from under the A-pillar outer covers without unclipping them?

Yes, no problem there, the cowl slides down and a bit of wriggling gets it out without disturbing the A pillar trim.

On refitting, the PITA is getting the clips to align with their holes, but persistence pays off.

We were thinking about doing the lower sills, mudflaps and rear bumper. However mine aren’t faded, plus if I end up getting APT rocksliders then there’s no point in painting the sills....
