Owned one for 5 years. Miss it. All the fruit. Great engine (I changed resonators for a bit more note). Thirsty tho.

Only prob I ever had was water pump. And LCA’s (which is typical)

Range is an issue with small tank and thirsty engine.

Bottom line I prefer my diesel but do miss the V8 burble all that fruit (and the E-Diff)

Rarely saw > 300kms to a tank (mainly urban driving)

On highway was marginally worse than diesel

    Towing economy was an oxymoron

    Discovery 4 V8

I’d look at the L322 post 2006 v8 options. The SC versions are amazingly speced up, even compared to the D4 v8 which had a lot of fruit.

The big drawback is the D4 and L322 V8s all got the ZF 6 speed V8 (which is very nice). The later diesels got the ZF 8 speed (which is better).

On the 5.0 NA & SC versions I’ve read the valve guides need replacing in some cases.
    L322 tdv8 poverty pack - wow

I think the 4.4 v8 and 5l v8 motors in D3 and 4 have issues with cam chain adjusters and then requiring replacement chains and adjusters...but at least it's a full front off not body off job to do a turbo o the td's. Having said that I have a feeling doing other things on the petrol 8 can involve body off.

    Cheers

Was the 4.4 a BMW engine?

If so it had well documented issues with the cooling system, mainly plastic parts failing.
