What size tyres are you running on your D4 with 18' rims?

Some Comments: The 285/60/18 go well off road. My fuel consumption has increased from the originals. The size should be reasonably available as is a LC standard size. The speedo is fractionally slow (not sure which way you say it) at 100 on the dial I'm doing 102-103.

Did you get any rubbing with those size tyres when new or did you require any modifications to arches, bumper or chassis that you know of?

That size is my preference but the tyre shop assures me they will not fit!

What rim do you have it on please?

Mine seem to be wearing much better than the old BFG KO's seemed to wear.

One major advantage of this size is if the vehicle ever drops to its bump stops for whatever reason,it will still be drivable,unlike the higher profile 18" tyres run by some,particularly the 285 sizes.

Standard D3/4 LR 18" rim (straight spokes). Yes will just touch inner arch covers on lowest setting when turning, and if I remember Tombie's comment of a few weeks ago they might catch if going onto bump stops (Haven't checked this out yet as travelling away for another month and don't want to kibosh anything).
In short, I'd prefer one size smaller to be sure, to be sure.

I had the standard 18" LR rim- 5 straight spokes. I didn't mod anything. Rubbed a little here and there. They definitely fit but I can understand why a tyre shop would say they don't. IIRC (were fitted to my now gone D3) the rear of the rear guard lining was the worst spot for rubbing. There wasn't any real issues (just a rub here and there) until i fitted the Toyos with the square and aggressive edge. These just touched the cable on the passenger front the runs along the chassis. This was going to be a problem longer term. I didn't do anything to rectify as I pulled those tyres off when I sold it. I have them in the shed to fit to the D4 when the tyres on the compomotives wear out. I'll have to do something to protect the cable in future.

I liked that size but in hindsight and after using 265/60/18 (I think that's the correct profile) that came on the compomotive and the bump stop issue (though I do have an emergency air kit) I don't think the 285/60 are worth it. Particularly with the Rubbed cable issue. They look good though [biggrin]

I have the 18" compomotive wheels.

It's possible to have some very minor rubbing with the tyres set low. I also now have Llams so with the setup to allow the car to go really low (to aid getting my old mother into the car). Minor rubbing though, somewhere near the rear of the front wheel arch. Under full lock.

I am carrying a tyre on the roof rack but the spare is a different tyre; the fitters said it would not fit. I could not the point in squeezing a tyre in when if I had a flat in dirty conditions it might be a task getting the flat tyre into the spare's wheel well; so if trouble comes I'll first use the one on the roof and put the flat tyre and wheel up there first. I'm also carrying 2nd van tyre (no wheel) on the roof rack.

I'm in QLD camping at the moment but have a cellular signal. Hence the tyres on the roof. Just in case.
