Thread: What size tyres are you running on your D4 with 18' rims?

First check what you can legally put on with the state authority. Going too big could be illegal. Have you seen this spreadsheet?

275/65 is the tallest you can feasibly go. I have these and they do rub a bit, even after mods. The D4 running gear is not made for anything bigger anyway and there aren't upgrade options.

My new to me but old D4 acquisition (with LLAMS), is shod with 285/60R18 = 31.5 diameter. Not been off road yet, but fine around town.

275/65R18 is I think 32.1 diameter

When you get a chance , check speedo with gps to make sure the speedo has been adjusted in the vehicles car config files to suit the bigger tyre size, otherwise you might pick up a fine , if it hasn't your speedo will under read by around 3% .

I have 265/65/18 and my speedo is 100% accurate at 100kph WITHOUT any adjustments to the config files. What is now inaccurate is the odometer as it shows let kn]ms than what has been traveled. Rather have an accurate speedo than odometer!!!

Thanks Craig - has been on my mind and will check it out en route to Nirvana next week!

The last three sets have been 285/60/18. I like the size and will continue with it.

However, the first two- Dunlop AT22 and Bridgestone A/T 697s- had only limited rubbing on the guards when articulated. But the current set- Toyo Open Country R/Ts rub a bit more. I've noted a rub on the cable split tube on the inner guard of the front left.

I think two reasons:

1. The Dunlops and B/Stones were second hand (wanted to try the size before purchasing, NB: usually lots of 285/60/18 Dunlop AT22's on Gumtree from LC 200 people ditching for upgrades, I got 6 tyres with 50-60% left for $150.00 the lot) so they had worn some what.

2. The Toyos have a very square tread with aggressive shoulder lugs. Which is the area doing the rubbing on the cable.

Some Comments: The 285/60/18 go well off road. My fuel consumption has increased from the originals. The size should be reasonably available as is a LC standard size. The speedo is fractionally slow (not sure which way you say it) at 100 on the dial I'm doing 102-103.
